This has been a fine week. The Emperor has disappeared from Exmoor. He was nine feet tall, and whilst some say he was shot, to date there’s been no sign of anybody brandishing his head or carcass as a trophy. It sounds like the stuff of myth and legend. The stags in the picture are in a deer park in the middle of Nottingham. It seems ironic that they, in Robin Hood country, a place famous for poaching in King John’s time, now appear to live a protected existence. The Emperor wild and free is, or is not, we shall wait and see.

The days have been getting shorter, but with some fine weather in the children’s holidays we’ve seen some sightseers in the skies, some days you can count them, 1 ,2 ,3, …sometimes we’ve seen as many as five. It must be fun to be able to fly so high.

While it must be fun to be in a hot air balloon, it's scary to a fraidy cat like me.
