Minor modifications

 

There’s still a waterfall on the other side of the bridge, and the water drains away to the right of the patch of mud in the distance. Last year, there was a lake with a family of swans. There were also stepping stones for giants – they’d removed alternate stones, so only giants could cross that way, ordinary mortals had to take the bridge. Health and safety considerations aside, I had hoped that the stepping stones would be restored for another generation, so that the younger children could enjoy them the way the rest of us had. Now, it looks as though some construction work is under way. There was no information posted. This is the view.

   Always the optimist, I had expected something beautiful at the end.
